24. GETTING AWAY

24.Design Message

Design shows how you can imagine yourself into a relaxing place.

24. Design Aim

I design to lose you in another land. Country tweeds can walk you through the park to a city job or a weekend in the country. Maxi dresses can dance you through the night at weekends. Floaty white outfits can paddle you through your summer holidays. We keep and deserve our rights to rest. We know without time off people people become less productive and burn out.

I design to highlight how so many people need a place to escape. I use my black abaya fabric for design to stand for people fleeing terror. These people too need rest. People are on the move with no clear path ahead and turmoil in their heads from the atrocities they have escaped. People are forced to grieve and suffer on in poverty, insecurity and with their horrendous memories. They have no sure place to turn or rest. If these people find work, they accept appalling conditions. People’s religions need safeguarding. For isolated people to survive the traumas and stresses they have experienced and seen, they need any comfort, faith or strength they can get. They have to live constantly with their thoughts. Their internal and combined faiths are constant crucial escapes and their only rest.

The line represents the human rights for all to their faith and rest in life.
