23. ALTERNATIVE REALITIES

23. Design Message

We can design and project what we want us all to be.

23. Design Aim

I design aspirational 3 piece suits to impress. I aim to project a calm togetherness and a sense of elevated status for work wear. I extend designs to include the luxury leisure wear that these aspirations could lead to.

For maximum impact in my suits and leisurewear, I focus on the simplicity of matching fabrics. I maximise on lengths and widths throughout, giving elevation through heels and strength through the shoulders.

My aspirational 3 piece work suit cuts a stark contrast to the lives of people living in extreme poverty and highlights the width of the wealth gap. So many people feel like they don’t exist with poor health, no money, no education and unable to build futures. People are struggling and asking why and finding answers and apportioning blame in the wrong places.

My suit cuts the deepest contrast to people who are living hand to mouth and are simply asking for basics, a life, a safe place and human dignity. Victims of wars and extreme climate change are denied an education, a voice, a chance to defend themselves with their truth, through their media or their version of history.

My clothes illustrate luxuries enjoyed by some where extreme basics are denied to others. Basically, we all have a right to a safe place to be. We are territorial yet we are all impacting on climate damaged territory and then forcing people who didn’t choose to be born there to live in that damage.

We want all of us on that line. On that line should be a right to live, all truths and change.
